3 stars – I liked it

To try and get over his massive crush on his roommate, Cassian goes to a bar in the hopes of losing his virginity. Unfortunately, he instead finds himself getting drunk with a stranger who then turns him into a vampire. Now he has to figure out how to deal with being a vampire and craving Blake’s blood.

This was an extremely short but very sweet novella. Cassian and Blake are college roommates who get along really well but Cassian has been fighting his crush on the straight Blake the whole time. Getting turned into a vampire makes Blake realize that he isn’t actually straight like he thought and he really likes Cass, but he does struggle a bit with the idea that he might be his mate. This really only shows us the beginning of Cass and Blake’s relationship and the beginning of Cass being a vampire, then skips to the epilogue with them graduating a few years later. While I knew this was going to be short going in, I was still a bit surprised by how abruptly the change in new relationship/vampire to epilogue was and wish there had been a bit more there.

While this is very short and sweet, I liked that even though it was a forced and unexpected turn, it wasn’t violent or traumatizing and we don’t get a lot of tension around it so this is a good light-hearted read. Overall, this was a great little novella for the series and a great way to introduce someone to the series without having to read the rest of the books.
