Title: Howl’s Moving Castle
Author: Diana Wynne Jones
Narrator: Jenny Sterlin
Series: Howl’s Moving Castle #1
Length: 8 hours 34 minutes

This book has been on my TBR pile since I first watched the film as a teenager. I knew that the book was a bit different but I still wanted to read it and see if I enjoyed it as much as the movie. While I enjoyed aspects of this book more than the movie, I think I still prefer the movie overall.
What I did enjoy in this book was that Sophie was a witch as well and that her magic was very different from Howls, Michaels, and the Witch of the Wastes. I liked how she enchanted the hats, the walking stick, and all the other stuff she did. It was just a nice addition to her character that I kind of wish was in the movie.
What I didn’t enjoy about this book was the lack of relationship between Howl and Sophie that we see in the movie. They barely interact in this book outside of Howl complaining about Sophie’s cleaning and Sophie complaining about how he is constantly making women fall in and out of love with him. I find it very hard to see these two having a lasting relationship when their relationship was master and servant for the majority of the book and we know Howl doesn’t stay in love with women once they fall in love with him.
Overall, I am glad I finally read this book and I did enjoy aspects of it, but the film will definitely be what I will be rewatching in the future, not rereading this book.
