4 stars – It was really good

When Leo Arundel finds himself jilted at the altar for the second time he finds himself desperately seeking a bride. He has until his thirtieth birthday, which is only days away, to find another bride otherwise he loses his inheritance so when Holly, a maid, agrees to wed him he agrees.

Holly and Leo’s relationship was surprisingly sweet. This is a marriage of convenience but from the very beginning these two are attracted to each other they just try to ignore it. I really enjoyed seeing these two get to know each other and fall in love. The romance between them was extremely sweet and wholesome. I loved how they actually cared for each other and didn’t care what society thought of them. Also their relationship takes place over a few weeks but we don’t get all of those full weeks, there is a bit of a time jump at times, but I think it worked well in keeping the story flowing and focused on the main storyline.

The main tension in this, which was still very minor overall, involved Holly’s criminal father’s conspirators. They try to cause problems for Holly and kidnap her. I liked that Leo didn’t give up and expected the worst of her when she disappeared and did everything he could to find her. I also thought the way they found her to be very unique and ingenious.

Overall, this was another wonderful Christmas romance. If you are looking for a low-tension historical romance with a marriage of convenience, I suggest picking up this one.

TW: murder of a parent; grief; kidnapping;
