Title: The Sad Ghost Club Vol. 3
Author: Lize Meddings
Series: Sad Ghost Club #3
Pages: 228
In this volume the Sad Ghost Club officially meets for the first time and they set out to find out how they can help their members, starting with Benji who asks for help with an upcoming set he will be playing. He doesn’t want to play for an empty room so asks for some familiar faces to be in the audience, and instead they Sad Ghost Club use this as a chance to promote the venue so more people can hear Benji’s music. Rue helps with creating flyers, stickers and other promotional goods during this and unfortunately forgets to take care of herself, or set boundaries.
The Sad Ghost Club seems like a good club where people who are struggling can meet up and help each other out, but there are still issues that need to be worked out. Like the previous book, SG continues to be excited about helping others but forgets that this is a group of people with issues, and so this time Rue is the one who reaches a breaking point by overloading herself with work for the club and not taking care of her mental health.
I do like this series, but continue to find SG to be a friend who is flawed. SG doesn’t realize how much pressure Rue is under and ignores Socks’ concern for her wellbeing until it is too late, but at least this time we see SG actually reach out to help her, unlike with Socks. Overall, this was another volume about the importance of having friends who support and can help you through your mental illness.
TW: social anxiety; depression; grief and death of a parent mentioned;
