3 stars – I liked it

This volume picks up the day after the previous volume ended. Socks and SG meet up for food and SG gets a response from the poster he created saying someone is also a sad ghost and wants to meet them. While SG is excited, Socks is anxious and upset because he feels like he is being replaced already. They meet the new ghost, Rue, and Rue and SG hit it off but Socks just is quiet and doesn’t feel ready to be a part of a larger group.

This volume is about the importance of knowing that you are not alone, hence the reason why SG wanted to reach out to more ghosts. While I applaud his drive to help others, I didn’t like the fact that SG almost instantly left behind Socks and left him alone for a week while he was in a depressive slump. But, the moment something happened with Rue, he instantly jumped in to help and then sought out Socks again after a week with no talking. I just felt that SG just wasn’t a great friend in this one, which after the first volume, was very disappointing.

My only other main issue was that at times it was hard to differentiate between SG and Socks. They look almost identical, except SG is taller so in the scenes where they are sitting it was sometimes hard to differentiate who was who. Rue was easy to identify because they have different colored sleeves at least.  Hopefully if more ghosts get introduced they will have identifying features.

When these three eventually reunite, they find that more ghosts have arrived at their meeting spot and that is how the Sad Ghost Club is formed. While I was disappointed in aspects of this volume, it still is a good message and I am interested in seeing how this story continues now that the club has formed.

TW: depression, anxiety, social anxiety, recent death of family member mentioned
