4 stars – It was really good

After reading the prequel and the first book I was a little apprehensive about continuing my reread of this series because of how terrible the men were. I am glad I continued reading though because Sabastian Wroth was a great MC who redeemed the previous books. Now I know to just not read the previous two stories in the future, or recommend them to people.

Sebastian Wroth was forcibly turned against his will by his brother. After the change, he lived a life of solitude for centuries and was still waiting for death. But meeting Kaderin changed everything for Sebastian, she gave him a reason to live again. Sebastian was a lonely, shy, protective, and extremely sweet vampire who I instantly loved.

“You’re the most beautiful thing I’ve ever beheld.

Kaderin the Cold Hearted is a valkyrie who feels nothing and considers her lack of emotions a blessing. She lost her two sisters in a battle against vampires by a vampire she had spared, so the guilt from their death feeds her dedication to kill as many vampires as she can. Kaderin was a woman who experienced a lot of loss so the lack of emotions would be helpful but after centuries without emotions, she realizes how much she has lost once she gets them back.

“And one thing I can promise you. The next thousand years of your life will be nothing like the last. Not while I live.”

Kaderin and Sebastian’s relationship was slow building, action packed, and very believable. This is not an instant love situation. For Kaderin, she has hated vampires since they took her sisters from her and that takes time for her to overcome. Bastian recognizes her as his Bride, but he admits that he doesn’t love her yet because he doesn’t know her or trust her yet, but he will in time. As they spend time with each other, we see these two slowly start to trust each other, then actually like each other, and then love each other. It was a beautiful progression of a relationship, especially with all the action in between.

Overall, this was a wonderful couple and an action packed story. I really enjoyed the whole idea of The Hie, which is like an immortal and dangerous version of The Amazing Race. I hope this series continues with this level of characters and action, no more misogynistic and rapey characters please.

TW: suicidal thoughts; death of siblings and parents; violence;
