3 stars – I liked it

This is the final book in Evan and Colin’s story and finally resolves the mysterious danger that has been attacking the paranormal community in Canada. This book was non-stop from the very beginning and involved everyone, including some members of the Order of the Onyx Shield, which was a surprise.

After Colin breaks the bond at the end of the previous book, he remembers everything that happened but has no emotional connection to the events or to Evan. This really hurts their relationship and while he does eventually remember, I never really ended up really warming up to Colin. Colin puts Evan through the wringer in this series and I hate seeing Evan be hurt so much after everything he has been through in this series and in the previous series. Also, I still remember how happy Evan was with Isk in the Not Dead Yet series and how emotional it was and I just see how much it is missing in this series.

The villain and the hunt for the truth in this one was very interesting and unexpected. The villain was an unexpected surprise that caused all kinds of problems. My main issue was that while I did enjoy the action at the end I was disappointed in how Wes was basically made useless during the fight.

Overall, I enjoyed Evan and Colin’s story but wish their relationship had been a bit more the focus at times. This world was a very interesting one that I quite enjoyed and would love to see the author write more spin-off series in this world.

CW: on page bombing and mass death; Evan has depression and worries about going into a depressive episode.
