4 stars – It was really good

This was an absolutely fantastic conclusion to this series! Wes and Hudson are a wonderful couple who I can’t get enough of. Hudson and Wes are now a solid couple who have worked out the majority of their trust issues and are an actual team. They are living together, working together, and dealing with Wes’s god status. Everything changes when Hudson’s niece shows up, shifters start getting killed, and newbie vampires start terrorizing Toronto’s shifter residence.

This book introduces us to shifters and their issues within Toronto. We met a young shifter girl named Sam who was a wonderful addition to the family. I was not expecting some of the things that were happening to the supernatural community but it made for a very exciting read that I couldn’t put down. I actually really loved learning all about the paranormal politics going on in Toronto and how it all played out in the end.

This book had a lot of wonderful moments and a lot of very heartbreaking moments. The last half of this book was nonstop and heartbreaking. I wasn’t prepared for some of the things that happened and my heart was breaking for all of these characters. I did enjoy seeing Wes finally embracing his abilities in the end and using them to protect his family. I just wish we had seen him use his magic more throughout the book, but I can understand why he was so cautious.

Overall, this was a wonderful ending for Hudson and Wes. I could read so many more books with these two just solving cases together. I will definitely be reading more of Burke’s books and especially the spin off series because I need more of this world.

CW: death of a friend; grief; depression; gun violence; car accident; references to past death, and suicide; emotionally abusive parent briefly mentioned;
