3 stars – I liked it

Dagan Zoelner and CIA agent Chelsea Duvall have been avoiding their feelings for each other for years now. While in London trying to gather dirt on Spider, the danger pushes them together and makes them stop fighting their feelings for each other.

Dagan and Chelsea have been a couple who have been obvious since they were introduced and the sparks have been flying with each book. Now we see them stuck together and unable to fight their feelings. While I did enjoy this book, I didn’t love it as much as other couples for a couple of reasons.

While I do like Dagan, I have never really loved how he has treated Chelsea. He is like a child trying to get the girl he likes attention so is constantly picking on her. He has been constantly hard on her from the beginning which just makes him a bit of an asshole and I think Chelsea lets him off a little easy for the way he treated her for years. But while he was childish, once it was pointed out to him, we see him change and go out of his way to praise her and her abilities, which I liked. I do appreciate that he changed his behavior.

Chelsea was a smart and capable woman who is better behind a desk than in the field but does a great job for her first time in the field. I liked Chelsea but I was also disappointed in her. She has a secret that she needs to tell Dagan since it involves him and she continuously lets things get in the way of telling him. She should have told him before they started their relationship and I know she was scared but even Dagan pointed out that wasn’t part of her normal behavior.

So while I like both of these characters, I also have things I don’t like about them but I did like their story overall. The hunt for Spider is going on for a lot longer than I expected and at this point I assume it will go until the end of the series. I am very interested in seeing who Spider is and how they catch him.

CW: death of parents mentioned; PTSD and flashbacks; brief capture and threat of torture; brother with addiction issues;
