Title: Rev It Up
Author: Julie Ann Walker
Series: Black Knights Inc #3
Pages: 349

Jake “The Snake” Sommers has returned to Chicago hoping to get a second chance with the woman he loved and pushed away. While Michelle still has feelings for Jake, it’s going to take a lot more than just existing for her to let him in again, especially since she has to factor in her son.
Jake and Shell’s story is very emotional because these two have a lot of pain and past actions to work through. Jake is a protective guy who has PTSD that caused him to do things that he deeply regrets, including hurting Shell. While I did appreciate that Jake was willing to discuss his mental health and see help with it, I didn’t love how Jake was determined to push his way back into Shell’s life. He has spent years away from her and instantly starts spewing his love for her when he sees her again, which was just a bit unrealistic. Yes he could still love her but they both are different people now and there should have been more reconnecting without a dangerous situation keeping them together.
Shell is a single mother who has spent the past few years taking care of her son. She has done some things that hurt Jake, and her brother, but it was what she believed was right. I liked Shell a lot. She was determined to take care of her son and be a better parent than her parents had been. I do think she should have told Jake the truth when came back into their lives. Jake and Shell’s relationship was a very emotional one that shows that if you communicate and make an effort, a relationship can survive a lot of damage.
Overall, this was another emotional relationship with great suspense. This series continues to be one that I can’t seem to put down. Between the romance and the suspense it’s hard to stop because so much is happening, but it does make the story fly by very quickly. I can’t wait to see who will fall next and what danger the Black Knights will be dealing with.
