Title: Doughnuts and Doom
Author: Balazs Lorinczi
Pages: 140

While I didn’t love how this book started, I ended up really enjoying this couple’s story a lot. To start with what I didn’t like, this book starts with Margot, the witch, taking her frustrating day out on Elena, a donut shop worker, because she didn’t have any chocolate donuts. It made me not like Margot for a while because you should never take your frustrations out on food service workers, especially over something they don’t have control over. Margot does apologize for her behavior though so that made me like her a little more.
Margot and Elena have a cute relationship that builds over a few days while Margot creates potions to stop the curse she accidentally put on Elena. They were a cute couple and I really wish the story was a little bit longer so we can see them actually be a couple together. Also, Stanley the snake was so cute!
The color palette for this story was very simple, only two colors, but it worked beautifully. I loved the pops of pink that would appear with the magic. Overall, this was really cute and beautifully illustrated.
