Title: Shadowed Blade
Author: J. C. Daniels
Series: Colbana Files #5
Pages: 314

This picks up shortly after the ending of the previous book and Kit is now working for the President of the United States, who we discovered is a non-human (NH). This was a very fast paced and action packed book that follows Kit and Justin following leads for NHs on behalf of the president but quickly uncovering more than they expected.
While I enjoyed this book, it did have some confusing scenes, especially in the first few chapters. If you didn’t read the previous novella, Misery’s Way, this will be even more confusing for you so I highly recommend that novella, even though it also was a bit cryptic.
This was an extensive mission for Kit as she navigates various dangers and unveils the truth about what is happening at Blackmore and with the President. It was a very dangerous and a bit convoluted at times thread but it ended up being a very interesting villain. I also really liked the friend of Kits that we got to meet for the first time. He was a very interesting character with some very cool abilities, but I didn’t love the ending with him.
The romance between Kit and Damon isn’t going great in my opinion. They have a lot of fire, but no real substance because they don’t communicate well and always seem to be at odds. It’s disappointing because I was really expecting more from their relationship after they finally got back together. Hopefully it gets better in the next book.
Overall, this was a good book but I wish the romance had more substance and the story wasn’t so dark all the time.
