Title: The Rycke
Author: Lily Mayne
Series: Monstrous #3
Pages: 317

This book takes us into our first raider camp and introduces us to the Rycke, which has been mentioned in both of the previous books. A raider named Ghost, aka Gage, is scouting the abandoned military base in Nevada when he comes across an injured monster and instead of killing it he frees it and takes him with him back to the raider camp.
Gage was a sweet and lonely raider who has spent most of his life keeping people at a distance He is the scout for their camp and frequently is being sent out into the Waste to hunt for resources, and recently to search for their missing leader Cat (who we meet in Edin). I really liked Gage. He has a huge heart that he hides away. I really loved watching him open up to Aury and admit his anxieties and fears about being forced to scout and standing up to his leader about it.
Aury was an extremely sweet but also very dangerous monster. He has spent years imprisoned by the military but never fought back because his species are pacifists, until their mates are in danger. While Aury’s character didn’t seem as well developed compared to Gage’s, I still really loved him. Gage and Aury have a very fast relationship that quickly leads to feelings. They were just so cute and sexy and I loved them.
Overall, this was another amazing book for this series. I am loving this unique world and that Mayne keeps giving us all different sides of life in this world. I can’t wait to see what monster will fall in love next.
Trigger Warnings: references to imprisonment and torture by military; anxiety and panic attacks
