Title: Broken Blade
Author: J.C. Daniels
Series: Colbana Files #3
Pages: 286

This book picks up four months after the events in the previous book. Kit is in Wolf Heaven and struggling to deal with what happened to her and the loss of her blade. But after months of living in fear we start to see her fight back and begin to put herself back together.
One of the things I like about this series is that Kit is an extremely traumatized person with PTSD and yet she continues to fight back and find ways to cope and live her life. I really like Daniels didn’t automatically make all this pain and trauma go away and we see Kit actually working through some of it. The events in the previous book may have broken her but she is slowly coming back stronger. I also really appreciated that we see Kit trying to find herself again on her own. Yes, I wish Damon can help, but Kit was right in that she has to do it on her own.
Kit’s first main case once she comes back involves a missing vase, which should be easy, but the woman who is searching for it is a very powerful being. I was not expecting the mythological angle for this case but it was extremely interesting. I loved how Daniels took this legend and reworked it into this world. I really enjoy how unique this world is becoming and really wonder how it will grow before this series ends.
Kit also now has a partner in her business. Justin is sticking around to help Kit and figure out what he wants to do next. We learn about why they joined Banner in the first place and some disturbing secrets that they have kept from the supernaturals. I was a little leery when I saw Justin was going to be sticking around but I think Daniels handled this wonderfully. I am now very interested in seeing what Justin will do in the future.
Overall, this was a wonderful follow up to the previous book. I am loving this series and these characters. I really don’t want to put these books down so I am very glad I am coming to this series so late because I don’t have to wait for the next books. I can’t wait to see what Kit will do in the next book as she deals with Tj’s monsters.
Trigger Warnings: PTSD; references and flashbacks to being kidnapped, raped, and suicide attempt; death and violence; Harry Potter references
