Title: Blade Song
Author: J. C. Daniels
Series: Colbana Files #1
Pages: 209

Well this was a wonderful introduction to a new world and a kickass heroine. Kit Colbana has been offered a job to track down the missing ward of the local cat shifter Alpha. She quickly finds that there is more to this case than just one missing shifter and nor can she ignore the powerful cat shifter that is her bodyguard for this case.
This book instantly had me hooked and I couldn’t put it down. Kit was a kickass, determined, and surprisingly soft hearted heroine who I instantly loved. She reminded me a lot of Kate Daniels, which is one of my favorite heroines and series. Also, Kit’s past was heartbreaking but I love that she hasn’t let it break her, nor does she let any new horror break her. I just loved her determination and grit.
This world was a very fascinating and exciting one. There are witches, shifters, vampires, and who knows what else. This was just a very rich world and we are given enough details to get the main gist of the world without being overwhelmed by too much information. I am very interested in learning more about how the different races rule and control the supernatural population as this series progresses.
While it does take a while, there is a romance in this. While I didn’t really like Damon at first, he quickly grew on me as the book progressed and Kit’s feelings changed. It’s not a fated mates relationship but it is very similar because shifters go into a “rut” and bond to someone who they already are having feelings for. It was a very interesting concept for shifters. While I did enjoy Kit and Damon’s relationship, it does happen very quickly towards the end of the book. We will see how their relationship actually plays out in the next book.
Overall, this was a great start for an urban fantasy series and I can’t wait to learn more about Kit and Damon. Also, I can’t wait to see what happens with Jude.
Trigger Warnings: kidnapping and death of children; PTSD; references and flashbacks to abusive family members;
