4 stars – It was really good

I absolutely love coming across paranormal romances that provide a unique take on a supernatural, and that is what Clark and Lindsey have done with this series. The Reapers are individuals who at the time of their death are given the choice to become a reaper and help others pass on. While it can be a lonely existence, each Reaper has a pendant with a piece of their soul inside it that can be gifted to their soulmate if they find them. But there are serious risks involved for both the human and the Reaper.

This was just such a fascinating take on Reapers that I couldn’t resist jumping into this book and once I started reading, I didn’t want to put the book down. Anthony, our Reaper, was from Victorian London and while he was titled he refused to get married because he knew he was gay. He spent his life hiding what he was and unfortunately died young, but was given a second chance as a Reaper, but that doesn’t mean he embraced who he was. It was wonderful seeing this lonely and closeted man open up and embrace his sexuality, and life again.

Elias was a wonderful partner for Anthony. I loved watching Elias and Tristan get to know each other and slowly fall for each other in their dreams. Elias was also great with not pushing Tristan to do more than he was willing. Elias also was an extremely interesting character because of his ability to see and communicate with ghosts. His ability was something I wish we had seen a bit more of, especially towards the end.

White this world involves a very heavy topic, I still really enjoyed this new world and these characters so much. I am very excited to see who will fall next and learn more about this world.

Trigger Warnings: Elias has a heart condition that gets worse; on page death of Tristan from a stroke before he becomes a Reaper; references and on page scenes of death, dying, and grief; toxic family;
