Title: Dead Serious Case #2: Mrs. Delores Abernathy
Author: Vawn Cassidy
Series: Crawshanks Guide to the Recently Departed #2
Pages: 274

It’s been six months since the events of the first book and Tristan Everett has a new ghost that he has to help. Mrs. Delores Abernathy was poisoned with arsenic and Tristan and Danny are determined to discover who did it and why.
Like the previous book, I really enjoyed this one. Tristan continues to be a wonderful, sweet, and extremely clumsy character who I can’t help but love. Tristan and Danny have fallen even more in love with each other and are starting to discuss the future, but Danny still doesn’t know about the ghosts. While I enjoyed the progression of their relationship in this, it did seem to take a backseat to the mystery. I do hope we see them work together in the next book.
“You’re it for me,” I whisper. “I hope that doesn’t freak you out, but you are literally the air that I breathe, Tristan Everett. I can’t imagine my life without you in it.”
The mystery of Delores’ poisoning was an enjoyable adventure that just continues to show how compassionate Tristan is. Along the way, Tristan and Dusty figure out new abilities they can do and it causes them some issues, which was very funny at times. Tristan’s abilities continue to be fascinating and I really want to learn more now, especially since it involves seeing reapers.
My only real complaint about this book was the multiple Harry Potter references in it. This book was published in 2022, why are you referencing HP in a queer romance.
Trigger Warning: on page parent with dementia; on page funeral and grief of a side character; poisoning; multiple Harry Potter references;
