5 stars – I loved it!

After falling in love with Soren in the first book I knew I was going to enjoy this book and it did not disappoint. This book takes place a year after the events in the first book. Gabe is still coming to terms with the existence of vampires and still struggling to be a decent brother and son. When Danny and Roman leave for their honeymoon, Gabe finds himself babysitting their dog with Soren and now he can’t ignore his feelings for him.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this couple because I honestly didn’t really like Gabe in the first book. Gabe is dealing with anxiety and the conflicting feelings from his childhood, which has caused him to push his brother and mother away. He desperately wants to reconnect with his family but struggles to bridge the gap. Gabe had wonderful character development in this book. We see him go from a anxious man struggling with his actions, or lack thereof, to a man who is finding happiness and peace in the arms of a vampire. For a character that I didn’t like at first, I ended up really loving Gabe.

“But Soren. Soren had made Gabe better. More open, less fearful. Gabe could accept magic in his life, if Soren came with it.”

Soren was a snarky, bratty vampire who has kept everyone at a distance due to his past. Soren was a character that I instantly fell in love with and I just ended up loving him more after getting to know about his past. I loved seeing Soren let Gabe in and open up about his past with him. Also, I adored all the cuddling and Soren pretending he didn’t like it. It was just so cute.

These two had an intense and sweet relationship that kept me hooked. I loved these two but I also loved that we got to see a good amount of Danny and Roman as well. I really love this small vampire den they are building and how it is so full of love and happiness. Also I can’t wait to learn more about Jay because he was a wonderful addition to this group.

Trigger Warnings: parent with dementia; anxiety and panic attacks; past abusive partner
