Wow, what a life!
Cassandra Peters, aka Elvira, started her life as a child struggling with her burn scars and an abusive mother but became a pop culture icon of a strong and unique female. Her journey to being Elvira was a whirlwind of crazy opportunities and heartbreaking life lessons.
This was just a fascinating memoir. As someone who grew up in the 1990s I have known about Elvira my whole life. I never was able to watch her shows though because I didn’t have tv but she was still a woman I looked up to. She embodied a beautiful and unique woman who could do anything, which is what all girls want to be like. Her story really just shows how wonderful and influential this woman really is.
I never realized that Cassandra went through so much in her life. She is frank and open in this memoir about her trials, her feelings, and her mental health. She talks about her depression, being verbally abused by her husband, her heartbreak at her miscarriages, and so much more. This book really delves into how her past influenced her and how it is still influencing her.
Overall, this was just a wonderful memoir of one of Hollywood’s most famous women. She reveals so many fascinating facts from her life that it’s almost unbelievable, like that she had a haunted house and partied with Elvis. Also, I love that she finally comes out to the world as being a part of the LGBTQ community.
This is on my #TBR list!
