4 stars – It was really good

Eamon Underwood has spent his life avoiding people because of his ability to see how much time a person has left. The only people he spends time with are his Uncle Seamus and the dead he interacts with during his job as a mortician. That quickly changes though when Troula Kouris moves next door to live with her aunts.

It was so nice being back in Nocturne Falls and meeting more of its residents. Eamon has spent his life hiding from the world and struggles under the weight of his abilities. Eamon was a sweet and kind man who needed someone like Troula to break through his barriers and push him to change his fate.  I knew I was going to like Eamon as soon as he showed love to a kitten and didn’t question adopting it.

Troula has come to Nocturne Falls to live with her aunts and become the next Oracle. I really liked how sweet and determined Troula was, especially since she never gave up on helping Eamon find a solution to his abilities. I also enjoyed learning about Oracles and what abilities that can have, even if we didn’t get to see Troula really using them. Also, I loved Troula’s aunts and their 15+ cats.

Troula and Eamon have an instant connection but Eamon’s abilities mean they can’t be together right away. I really enjoyed seeing these two get to know each other while keeping their distance, and work together to utilize this magical community to solve Eamon’s problems. Not only did I enjoy these two’s relationship, I also really liked the side relationship that was building between Uncle Seamus and Aunt Delly.

Painter continues to do a wonderful job expanding Nocturne Falls and introducing new paranormals. With each new book she provides us with new paranormals and unique ways in which this community comes together to help them. I really enjoyed this couple and eagerly await the next book.
