Title: An Unexpected Peril
Author: Deanna Raybourn
Series: Veronica Speedwell #6
Pages: 346

In this one, Veronica and Stoker set out to solve the murder of a pioneering mountain climber Alice Baker-Greene. Things quickly get out of hand when Veronica finds herself posing as the Alpenwald Princess to secure a treaty while the real princess is missing.
While I did enjoy this mystery, I didn’t love this one as much as the previous few books. The murder mystery was a bit different from previous books because it’s been months since the death and it was in a different country. They are doing all their investigating by interviewing the royals of Alpenwald and looking for clues in Alice’s belongings. Like I said, the mystery was interesting but not as exciting as previous until the very end.
Stoker and Veronica’s relationship continues to grow in this one. We see Veronica start to show fear about her relationship because she is afraid of being trapped in the relationship or growing bored. I like that Stoker doesn’t let her hide her feelings and confronts her about this. I think it’s good that they are discussing their fears of ennui and that it will make their relationship stronger in the long run, but we will see.
Overall, this was a good murder mystery. Veronica and Stoker continue to be a great couple that I want to know more about. Also, I have seen so many mentions of mustaches in my life.
