Title: A Murderous Relation
Author: Deanna Raybourn
Series: Veronica Speedwell #5
Pages: 316

Veronica and Stoker are back in London and are now working to uncover a scandal that threatens the monarchy. They are also dealing with the hysteria that is gripping London from the elusive serial killer, Jack the Ripper.
“Very well, then. I suppose I must surrender to my fate. Because you are clearly destined for adventure. And I am destined for you.”
This was another enjoyable adventure for Veronica and Stoker. After the previous book, I was really expecting this book to start with Veronica and Stoker being an actual couple, but that isn’t the case. Circumstances prevent them from actual acting on their wants until the very end of this book, which was a bit disappointing for me because we have waited so long at this point, but I still enjoyed the book overall.
This adventure returns us to Veronica’s heritage and the threat she can be to the monarchy. I enjoyed the adventure a lot and how Stoker and Veronica really work well as a team. Veronica also gets to meet her half brother in this and I was surprised by how much I liked Eddie, even if he was very spoiled. Also, we get to see more of Rupert and meet his wife, who I loved. I really want to see more of the Templeton-Vane siblings in future books.
Overall, this was another enjoyable mystery, even if we had to wait forever for Veronica and Stoker to act on their wants. My only real complaint was that I was expecting this to deal more with Jack the Ripper and that was more just a background situation that they keep abreast of and didn’t investigate. I can’t wait to see what happens next for these two.
Trigger Warnings: death; kidnapping; gun violence;
