Series: Out of Uniform #3

Maddox and Ben have been friends for years. They work together on the same SEAL team and have spent the past two years as roommates, But neither of them can ignore their growing feelings for each other.
Ben and Maddox’s relationship was a sweet friends to lovers story. The beginning of this story was filled with flashbacks showing what led to the awkwardness between these two. There was a lot of tension and fear that they would ruin their friendship. Maddox also has the fear that monogamy won’t be enough for Ben since he previously had an open relationship. I liked Maddox and his determination to embrace what makes him happy, even if it hurt Ben’s feelings. Ben was a very focused man who focused his life solely around his military career so his character doesn’t feel as complex as Maddox. I did like his dedication to making Maddox happy though.
While there is a lot of tension between these two at times, it was still a great story and progression of their relationship. The tension made sense considering Ben’s commitment phobia and lack of belief in love, and Maddox’s fear of not being enough. Overall, this was just great friends to lovers romance.
Trigger Warnings: homophobic family, physical injuries during SEAL mission
