3 stars – I liked it

We return to another year returning to Camp Half-Blood and another quest for Percy and the gang. This time they are sent to find and rescue a goddess and Annabeth.

Like the previous books, this was an enjoyable adventure. Percy continues to mature with every book and grow into a determined hero. This one was a bit different from the previous books because the team included some new kids, including Thalia. I was surprised by how much I liked Thalia. She was a bit headstrong and moody but she is also still dealing with being a tree for six years.

The hunters were interesting but I also found them a bit annoying. They were total man haters which is disappointing but most girls do go through that stage at least for a short time in their childhoods. I think my main issue with this group was that I just kept wishing it was Annabeth with them instead of the hunters, which isn’t a bad thing.

The mission was interesting because it took the kids all over the place. They saw and fought a lot of new monsters, rescued the goddess, found Annabeth, and won another victory against Chronos’ people. I enjoyed this but I think out of all the books so far this has been my least favorite adventure, but it was still great!

Trigger Warnings: kidnapping, violence, parental abandonment, death of a parent from car accident, alcoholic parent
