3 stars – I liked it

Well this wasn’t what I was expecting for the last Ian and Veritas book. This book picks up a few weeks after the previous one ended with Veritas agreeing to a deal with Phanes to help save Ian. This leads to her uncovering the truth about Phanes, some gods being unleashed from the netherworld, and then having to save the world.

Like all of the books in this universe, this was nonstop action. I enjoyed the action scenes and battles, but the plot and added characters didn’t really do it for me. There were a lot of new characters thrown into this book, and sadly most of them didn’t really do much or interest me. The gods who are the villians in this story were not very scary. They were more spoiled brats who just wanted everything and got upset when people told them no. Enjoyed the battle against them, but I thought it ended pretty quickly.

Ian and Veritas’ relationship basically solidifies in this one but they don’t have a lot of real romantic time together. They are just going from one situation to another. There aren’t any loose ends to their storyline, which is good, but I was very disappointed in the abrupt ending of this book. I was really expecting an epilogue with them being happy or something after the battle to show their HEA.

Overall, I enjoyed this but was disappointed about aspects of it. I still really like Ian and Veritas. I do hope Ms. Frost will write more in this universe in the future, even if it’s just novellas. Maybe we will see Ashael get his own story.
