4 stars out of five
4 stars – It was really good

Balthazar has been possessed by the demon Devina and is determined to find her Book of Spells in the hopes it will save him. What he doesn’t expect is to find himself falling for a homicide detective.

I really enjoyed Balthazar’s story. He may be a thief but he does have a moral code he lives by. Erika Saunder’s is a good homicide detective who has used her painful past to push her to help others. She was a tough woman who struggles to let anyone in or allow herself to become comfortable anywhere. These two were total opposites but worked wonderfully together. I really enjoyed their relationship, especially how Balthazar helped Erika overcome the trauma of her family’s death and her body image.

Devina unleashes an old enemy in this one in the hopes of finding her true love. I am really glad I reread the Fallen Angel series before reading this book, even if I didn’t love it, because it gave me a better understanding of Devina. She definitely is the embodiment of evil and I am really interested in seeing what is going to happen with her in the next book.

Lassiter also plays a pretty big role in this book, even if he doesn’t get a lot of page time. Lassiter is my absolute favorite character in this series and I love the character development he has had. I was very heartbroken for him in this though when you realize what he sacrifices. I do hope we get a whole book dedicated to him in the future.

Rahvyn is a relatively new character and I am fascinated by her abilities. I am very interested in seeing what she does in the future, especially after her actions in this book. V is the other main brother in this story. I liked that he seems to have figured his shit out and is more stable now compared to previous books. I also enjoyed the brief glimpses we get of the other brothers in this, even if they were pretty brief.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. After twenty books I really thought this series couldn’t get more exciting but this book really brings a whole new danger to the world. I can’t wait to see how this storyline goes.

Trigger Warnings: Heroines family was brutally murdered by her ex. Graphic deaths described.
