Title: Reckoning
Author: Jeanine Frost
Series: Night Huntress #0.5
Pages: 59

This novella originally appeared in the anthology Unbound.
This was a great introduction to the hero of this series. Bones is hired to take out a pair of undead serial killers. With the help of a local he finds the killers but things are not as easy as he expected. Also he is dealing with a bounty hunter trying to target him as well.
I enjoyed this novella. It is a rare look at just Bones POV and before he gets tangled up with Cat. He is definitely an experienced hunter and killer but we also see that he is a bit tired of it all. He comes across as a bit depressed and sad, which is understandable for an old vampire.
The serial killers in this one were a bit interesting. I do think Bones was way too overconfident in his abilities against them though, especially considering he knew their history. I am very interested in learning more about the ruler or New Orleans, Majestic, because she seems like a fascinating character.
Overall, this was a good introduction to the hero, not so much the Night Huntress world though since it is so short. I am looking forward to seeing Bones a little less depressed in the next book.
Trigger warnings: cannibalism, murder, violence
