3 stars – I liked it

Amber Kowalski has become a PI for the paranormal. Her newest case involves helping a recently departed find out how she died. What she doesn’t expect is to run into her ex or to be dealing with demons.

This book was surprising. Quintin has changed so much since he was a teenager. He is no longer a kind, sweet guy but instead he is a rough and dangerous demon hunter. I was a bit angry at Quintin when I realized how he broke things off with Amber but once I got the full story I was ok with it. Quintin’s story was very emotional and heartbreaking. Amber really has some fascinating abilities, especially with the tarot cards, and I wish we got to see more of that.

I am a bit sad that this wasn’t longer because I really wanted to see more of their relationship, especially Quintin being grilled by her parents. Also, I really want to know more about Rune but maybe there will be another story with these two and we will get more information about him.

Overall, this was a great novella for the series. I enjoyed seeing Amber and Quintin get their second chance at love. Also I really loved Amber’s ghost friend Kyle. He was a great side character.

Trigger Warnings: torture, abuse
