Title: Emerald Blaze
Author: Ilona Andrews
Series: Hidden Legacy #5
Catalina Baylor, Head of House Baylor and a Deputy Warden of Texas has been given the task of solving a Prime’s murder and the theft of the Osiris Serum. She is forced to work with the dangerous and handsome Alessandro Segredo, the Prime who broke her heart.
This was wonderful and unexpected. From the very beginning I was hooked on the story and couldn’t put it down. Catalina has gotten more ruthless since the previous book, which was six months previous. She is thinking more like a Head Prime than ever before, mostly due to her grandmother’s training and interference. I like that while it is influencing her, she is also still sticking to her morals and the three rules. Catalina really shows some amazing power and abilities in this book and I can’t wait to see what her future abilities will look like.
“You are immune to my magic and my wings.”
“But I’m not immune to you.”
Alessandro was a completely different man in this one. He is no longer the flirtatious and carefree acting assassin. He is serious and determined to protect Catalina and take down their enemies. This change was quite heartbreaking to learn about but I think it has made him a better person. I like him even more now, especially since we finally get to learn his true history and why he is the way he is.
The murder mystery was very interesting in this one. The abilities of the people in this world are fascinating and I just love learning more about them. The action kept me hooked from the very beginning and I couldn’t put the book down. I have done nothing today but read this book because it was just so good.
Catalina and Alessandra’s relationship has had its ups and downs but we finally see them really connecting and being honest with each other in this one. They finally admit everything and are determined to make it work. I hated all the pain up to this point but it definitely made them a stronger couple. I can’t wait to see what their future is like in the next book.
Also, I love that we get to see a small portion of Rogan and Nevada’s future in this and really hope we get more.
