2021 Reading Wrap Up

Banner for 2021 Reading Wrap Up

2021 was a very good reading year for me. I surpassed my goal and surpassed the max amount I have ever read in a year. I hope 2022 is another successful reading year for me!

This is set up like my monthly wrap ups but for the whole years so you can see what genre’s and tropes I gravitated towards this year. Its always interesting to see how it changes from year to year.

Reading Stats:

Books Read: 607

  • New: 387
  • Re-reads: 220

Formats:

  • eBooks: 442
  • Audiobooks: 78
  • Comics/ Manga: 63
  • Paperback: 7
  • Hardback: 9
  • Webcomic: 8

I am very happy with the stats for this because I said I wanted to read more comics and listen to more audiobooks this year and I did it. I have really expanded what I read for nonfiction because of audiobooks.

Ratings:

Again, very happy with my ratings this year. So many 4 and 5 star books! I did have 10 DNF but that is ok in my opinion. I would rather DNF a book than give it a 1 or 2 stars.

Pages:

  • 125,565 pages for 2021!

Listening time:

  • 574 hours and 12 minutes of listening time!

Genres and Tropes:

Genre’s and tropes are always the one stat that I am super excited to see at the end of the year. This year I read mostly paranormal (which wasn’t really a surprise), but I also read a lot of SciFi, and contemporary. I read more contemporary books than I thought I had but also less than in previous years. Also a lot of horror comic books this year, which is usually one of my least read genres.

This looks very cluttered but it is interesting to see what tropes I gravitated towards this year, which is apparently fated mates and LGBTQ. I am super excited about that because one of my goals was tor read more LGBTQ books and I plan to read even more this year (hopefully).

Sources:

  • Purchased eBook: 242
  • ARCs: 87
  • Purchased Book: 21
  • Library: 73
  • Purchased Audio: 49
  • Free Online: 37
  • Kindle Unlimited: 70
  • Borrowed/Other: 25
  • Shonen Jump: 1

Purchased ebooks are clearly my most read thing but I was extremely happy to see that I read a lot of books from my library and through KU. This year I focused on checking my library first before buying any books and it really made a difference I think. Also 87 ARCs read! I am so happy about that.

Most Read Author:

My most read authors were Shelly Laurenston/G.A. Aiken, Jennifer Estep, and Mike Mignola. As you can see I read a lot of some of these authors. I did rereads of multiple very long series this year and I loved it. Also looking at this list, most of these are favorite authors that I constantly return to and reread.

Favorite New to Me Authors:

Favorite Posts of the Year:

I started a RHAR recommends series this year and I plan to continue it this year. I don’t know if it will be every month but it will be hopefully every other month at least.

Favorite Books of the Year:

Instead of doing a whole section of my favorite books this year, I made a whole post for it.

How was your reading this year! Did you reach your goal? Did you set a new goal for this year?

  1. 607 BOOKS!!!! DAMN, WHAT IS IT LIKE LIVING MY DREAM??? 😅😂

Jokes aside, it’s nice to know that you had a wonderful reading year. 2021 was also a great one, just based on the quality (I enjoyed almost all the books I read). I’m definitely hoping 2022 follows the same momentum. 😊
