Title: In the Shadows
Author: Hailey Turner
Series: Metahuman Files #3
Pages: 368

This book continues where the previous books left off with Alpha Team still trying to prevent several terrorists groups from joining forces. Alexei and Sean are assigned a mission together and it finally allows them to admit their feelings for each other.
Alexei is a character that I liked right away. He is protective of his adoptive brother Kyle, is very grumpy at times, but is also very sweet when he lets someone in. Alexei was hesitant about trusting Sean in the beginning because of his background but once he gets past that he goes all in on welcoming and flirting with him.
Sean was a lonely but good agent. His undercover work has forced him to live a life by himself and mistrust others. Being around Alexei he finally learns to lean on another person and get over some of the trauma his missions caused. I loved how Alexei constantly made sure Sean was actually willing and enjoying their encounters before continuing. Alexei really was just the perfect partner for him to learn his likes and dislikes.
The overarching story continues in this one with new leads about Splice and the terrorists groups. Also there were all kinds of action packed scenes in this one and I loved that we got to see some of the other team members display the range of their abilities.
Overall, this series has been wonderful and addicting. I can’t wait to jump in the next book to see what happens next.
