4 stars – It was really good

Eleanor Hawke loves a good scandal, which is why she runs a successful gossip rag that exploits the wealthy, including her favorite subject Daniel Balfour, the notorious Earl of Ashford. When he invites her to experience his illicit pursuits firsthand, she can’t resist accepting.

This was a fun one. I loved how sassy Eleanor was. She took every opportunity to stand up for herself, her profession, women in general, and the working class. She really wasn’t afraid of putting Ashford in his place or pointing out when he was being a privileged asshole. I really enjoyed her undercover roles and how she wasn’t afraid to try anything.

Daniel, aka Ashford, started as the privileged Earl who got everything he wanted. But with each passing chapter you see him change and realize how lucky he has been. I loved seeing the change in his character and how he became a better person.

“You set me adrift,” she confessed.
“And you anchor me,” he answered.

These two had instant attraction but they denied it for a long time. I enjoyed their low progression into a relationship. I also really loved the growth we saw in each of their characters with each chapter. Also, I just loved the conversations these two had. They were just hilarious at times and I never knew what to expect. Overall, this was a great historical romance and I can’t wait to read the next one.
