3 stars – I liked it

Welcome to Night Vale follows the pawn shop proprietor Jackie Fierro who has the same routine and has never aged past 19 and Diane Crayton who is determined to keep her 15 year old son away from his father.

This was just like listening to the podcast, just a lot longer. At first I wasn’t really enjoying Diane’s portion of this story but after she started working with Jackie I liked her a lot more. Their adventure to discover why they were being propelled to King City and how it pertained to Diane’s ex was interesting. I did really like Diane’s son Josh because he was always turning into interesting things.

If you have never listened to the podcast, you can still enjoy this story. There are references to things or people from the podcast but it’s nothing that was pertinent to this story. It’s mostly little clues that a long time listener would catch, like All Hail the Mighty Glow Cloud!

Overall, this is a fascinating blend of fantasy, horror, and humor. I highly recommend it if you are looking for something unique to listen to. Also I love that in this universe the library and librarians are considered dangerous.
