4 stars – It was really good

Astro-archeologist Niklas Phoenix reluctantly agrees to go on an expedition to Earth with the Institute of Historical Preservation. He doesn’t trust them after they betrayed him years ago, but he can’t resist the chance at seeing Earth, and spending time with the sexy treasure hunter Nera Darc.

Nik and Nera are one of my favorite couples in this series. I love how dangerous Nera is. She has survived so much and has used it to make herself stronger. Nik and Nera have been enemies for a while but there has always been the underlying attraction between them. Nera has spent a lifetime keeping people at a distance but Nik refuses to let her run from him or her feelings.

Nik was a wonderful hero. He was smart, protective, and had a strong dedication to history. My favorite thing about Nik though was that he truly understands Nera and has no problem letting her be in control in the relationship. He loves and appreciates her strengths and skills and just loves her for who she is.

This was a wonderful adventure to Earth. It was fascinating to see how the Earth has changed in a thousand years and how the radiation has mutated it. I wasn’t expecting some aspects of this book but I really enjoyed it. Also I was surprised by how likable Jonas Solomon was and hope he gets his own book.

Trigger warnings:  Nera was enslaved and abused in the past.
