3 stars – I liked it

Sahvage has been living under the radar for centuries but when an ancient evil returns and a beautiful woman asks him for help, he finds himself returning to his past and fighting with the Brotherhood.

I am always glad when I can return to the Black Dagger Brotherhood universe! Sahvage’s story was interesting since he was a new character to the world. He is a brutal looking vampire who is covered in tattoos. While we don’t get a lot of personality in the beginning, by the end of the book Sahvage really opens up. Sahvage was a very enjoyable hero, which really surprised me. Mae was just ok for me. She was very naive and in denial about the Book and other things. I found myself getting annoyed by her at times.

I enjoyed seeing more of the Brotherhood and the Bastards. This book included a lot of scenes with Balthazar the thief and Nate, Mhurder and Sarah’s son. Both were interesting characters and I am interested in seeing how their characters develop in the next book. But my absolute favorite thing was the ending of this book that was just a hint at a possible love interest for a certain character, and I can’t wait to see how that plays out.

While I enjoyed this book overall, the first half of this book was slow for me. I struggled to be captivated by the characters, mostly Mae, until about halfway through the story when it started getting more action packed. The last half of the book was very good though and made up for the slow beginning.

Overall, this was a good addition to the series. I am glad I finally picked it up and I can’t wait for the next book.
