4 stars – It was really good

The Duke of Ashbury needs an heir, which requires a wife. When he meets Emma Gladstone, a vicar’s daughter turned seamstress he decides she will work perfectly for his marriage of convenience.

Well this was a wonderful marriage of convenience romance. I am so glad I picked this book for my first Tessa Dare romance. Ashbury was a proud man who has been scarred physically and emotionally by life. He doesn’t trust anyone, especially women, to look beyond his appearance. Ash was everything I love in a historical hero. I really enjoyed watching him slowly fall in love with Emma and break all his rules.

Emma was a wonderful heroine. She was strong willed, courageous, and a talented seamstress. I loved how she constantly pushed Ash’s boundaries and his rules. She never let him hide from her and it was just what he needed to live again. I really enjoyed all the nicknames she used for him and how she got her friends to help her come up with some wild ones. Ash and Emma had a wonderful romance filled with tension, pining, steamy sex, and lots of love in the end.

This was a wonderful historical romance that I couldn’t put down. I adored everything about this book and can’t wait to read the next two books in this series. That is one great thing about coming to a series late, I don’t have to wait years for the next book.
