4 stars – It was really good

Former Hunter, Scythe, is a loner who has no room for love or desire, especially when it comes to the beautiful Breedmate Chiara. But when he is tasked with protecting her from an unknown threat, his determination to keep away from her waivers.

Scythe and Chiara’s story was a very enjoyable one. I loved the progression of their relationship and how Chiara had to break down Scythe’s walls. Scythe was a very interesting character and I love that we are getting more stories about the Hunters. He was a grumpy loner who didn’t let anyone close (my favorite kind of hero) and it was understandable once he started revealing some of his past. It was heartbreaking and it made me love him even more.

Chiara was a sweet woman with a spine of steel. She was betrayed by her husband’s actions and now is determined to protect her son at all costs. Chiara was a wonderful partner for Scythe because she brought out the best in him. She also never pushed for him to talk about what happened before he was read, which I appreciated. These two were just so sweet together, also they had great chemistry.

Overall, this was a great novella with a great couple. I do hope we see more stories with other Hunters in the future though because I seem to love the damaged bad boys in this series.

Trigger Warnings: references to abuse, torture, and human trafficking.
