3 stars – I liked it

In one night of violence, Lazaro Archer lost everyone he loved except his grandson. Now years later he is a leader of the Order’s command center in Italy. When a covert mission takes a deadly turn, he does everything he can to protect the beautiful Breedmate Melena Walsh.

This novella was unexpected for me because I kind of forgot about Lazaro Archer. It was interesting to see how much of his life has changed since we first met this Gen One civilian. Even though years have passed since he lost his wife and family, he is still grieving. Lazaro was a bit of a jerk sadly.

Melena was a strong woman with a fascinating and very useful power. I liked her a lot, especially since she wasn’t afraid to call Lazaro a coward. Their relationship relies heavily on insta-love and is rocky throughout most of the story. While Lazaro was not a favorite, I did really enjoy Melena. I also enjoyed meeting some of the other warriors in the Order.

Trigger Warning: Lazaro lost his wife, children, and the rest of his family in a fire.
