4 stars – It was really good

Shining Smith has been surviving and hiding in her junkyard for years. But in one day everything changes, someone has realized she is still alive and has a bunch of very illegal weapons. Now she has to fight to protect herself, her cats, and the things hidden in her junkyard.

I went into this story blind. I just knew it was a sci-fi post-apocalypse book by Faith Hunter and that was enough for me to try it. I was instantly sucked into this future world that has been changed by WWIII, alien technology, and nanobots. Shining Smith was a wonderful heroine. She was smart, dangerous, and mysterious, and basically everything I love in a heroine. Also I loved that Shining was a cat woman and that she was looking out for them in the middle of battle.

This story takes place completely in her junkyard in the span of about two days (maybe less it was a little unclear). I really enjoyed how fast pace this was and all the characters. The nanobots were quite fascinating and I really can’t wait to start the second audiobook because I want to see what else they can do. Also, I will never look at ants the same again after listening to this story.
