2 stars – it was ok

Riordan is tasked with infiltrating a suspicious gathering that seems to be involved with the Others. He quickly realizes there’s definitely something going on but is distracted by the beautiful sister of the leader, Fianna.

This book was ok. I thought the first 30% of it was kind of boring and I never really warmed up to the characters, especially Fianna. Fianna was supposed to be a tough female but her actions with her family make it clear she is not her own person. She constantly lets herself be ordered around by her family and even sits out during a battle. Riordan was ok. I didn’t really have any problems with him but I also didn’t really love him. Neither of these characters had much of a personality and so I didn’t find their relationship really enjoyable.

This book just felt like a filler book in the series. There was very little progress actually made against the Others. We did get a tiny glimpse of Xaneth in this one but still not enough to really understand what is going on. Overall, this is my least favorite book out of the series but I will read the next one.
