3 stars – I liked it

Widowed Breedmate Danika MacConn has returned to Scotland to spend the holidays with Conlan’s family. When she rejects the advances of a dangerous Breed she brings danger to herself and her son.

This was a very quick novella with Breedmate Danika, who we haven’t really seen much of since the first two books. I liked Danika. She was a strong willed woman who doesn’t let herself be pushed around by men. Malcolm was protective but also very broken. The unexpected loss of his wife and child sent him into a rage and he has spent six months trying to take down the man responsible. I liked his determination but I think Danika was right in calling him out for his tactics on getting revenge.

Their relationship is very quick. Malcolm was a friend of Conlans so they know one another but haven’t seen each other in centuries. Their relationship felt very fast considering they haven’t seen each other in so long but it didn’t ruin the story for me. Overall, this was a good novella in the series but it won’t stand out compared to other books.

Trigger Warnings:

  • Malcolm is grieving the murder of his wife and unborn child.
  • Child endangerment
  • Human trafficking for blood sport
