3 stars – I liked it

Jenna Darrow survived her time with the Ancient but she is no longer quite human. As she struggles to cope with the changes happening to her body and to her life, she finds herself drawn to the Breed warrior Brock.

Jenna was a very strong woman. She has gone through so much with the loss of her husband and daughter, the loss of her brother, and being the hostage of the Ancient. Her story was heartbreaking and I just wanted to give her a hug every time she thought of her past. I am really interested in seeing how she will change in the future since they are slowly happening.

Brock is a protective alpha male who is driven to protect everyone. His past has made him keep women at arms length and refuse to consider a relationship. With Jenna though, everything changes and he doesn’t want just one night. He wants forever. I really enjoyed Brock and Jenna and thought they had a good relationship.

There was also a lot of progress in the hunt against Dragos. Dragos is starting to strike out against the Order to keep them occupied while he plots something larger. The Order is able to strike another blow against him but it will be interesting to see how everything plays out in the next couple of books. Overall, this was a good addition to the series with a good couple. I can’t wait to see what is going to happen next in this series.

Trigger Warnings:

  • Jenna suffers from grief, depression and survivors guilt from the car accident that took the life of her husband and daughter.
