“The world seems full of good men, even if there are monsters in it.”
Dracula is one of the first classic horror books that almost everyone recommends. I first read this book in college and since have read it multiple times. This time I decided to give the full cast audiobook a try and I highly recommend it. I actually enjoyed this more as an audiobook than just reading it.
This horror story is unique because it takes place solely through letters and journal entries that are explaining chronicling the events to bring down Dracula. The story is written in an older writing style with descriptive and wordy sections which made some sections a chore to listen to, especially with Dr. Stewarts sections.
“But we are strong, each in our purpose, and we are all more strong together.”
One of the things about this story that I really enjoyed was the camaraderie between everyone. Once they realize the horror they were facing, they don’t waste any time joining forces to bring evil down. It created a lasting bond and friendship between them. Also I really loved how they all looked towards Mina for the missing clues. They quickly realized how much of an asset she could be and she became the heart of the operation basically. A lot of classics rarely involve women or they just get pushed into the role of housewife and don’t play an active role in the story, but Mina actively plays a role and helps bring down Dracula. She is such a strong woman and I can’t help but admire her.
“If it is to be that I meet death at any hand, let it be at the hand of he who loves me best.” – Mina
Overall, this is a horror classic that I highly recommend reading, especially if you like vampire stories. I would recommend giving this audiobook a chance as well because the full cast really brought this story to life and gave life to all the different characters.
