3 stars – I liked it

Lucinda Hayward Duvall, of the Designer-class Duvalls on Alpha-Prime, has never fit in with her noble family. She doesn’t want to spend her time dressing up, decorating, and socializing. She would rather stay at home, read a book, and not think about her arranged marriage. But when she meets Axel Grey of Earth’s galactic waystation she instantly wishes for  a different life, one with Axel.

This book made me both happy and frustrated. First off, I really loved how Axel and Lucy met. I love the joy that Lucy had with every new experience on Earth. What I didn’t love was that she refused to stand up to her parents about her feelings. She started to, but quickly just gave in after one tiny argument. It was really disappointing that she was willing to go along with their plans to marry her off to someone else. Axel was just as disappointing in this regard too. He doesn’t put up a fight for her either.

I liked Lucy’s sister Francine because she was a very sweet woman who put a plan in place to make her sister happy. She isn’t afraid to give up everything she has known for happiness. I just wish Lucy had been more willing to do that.  I really want to see her find happiness now because she deserves it.

So like I said, this book made me happy because Axel and Lucy do get to be together but it also frustrated me by how much of a wimp they both were about not standing up to their parents, especially after both complained about how archaic arranged marriages were and they should be stopped.
