Title: Kiss of Midnight
Author: Lara Adrian
Series: Midnight Breed #1
Pages: 434

Lucan Thorne is a Breed warrior who has sworn to protect his kind, and humans, from the rising threat of rogues. He refuses to let anything distract him from his task, including the beautiful Gabrielle Maxwell. At least that is until she is targeted by the rogues and he realizes how much he can’t live without her.
This was a fascinating and unique take on vampires. Lucan Thorne is the leader of the Breed warriors. He is also a gen one Breed which means he is also one of the oldest Breeds. He has seen a lot of battles and death in his lifespan and refuses to mate because of it. Because of this, Lucan is frequently hot and cold towards Gabrielle, which kind of bugged me.
Gabrielle was so supportive and awesome. While she does freak out a little about finding out about vampires, breedmates, and rogues she still accepted it pretty quickly. I loved how she didn’t let fear hold her back from being in a relationship with Lucan, even when he was pushing her away she stills doesn’t give up. I just wish Lucan had been as supportive and accepting as she had been.
I really enjoyed meeting the other Breed warriors as well. They all have very different personalities and issues, which I can’t wait to dive into. I was sad by some of the events in this book but I hope they can move on from the betrayals and deaths.
