It’s #FaeFriday and I bet you already knew what this week’s prompt would be.

What book didn’t live up to the hype?

So I couldn’t narrow this post down to just one book because I had quite a few books for this prompt. If you haven’t noticed, I don’t read a lot of the “popular” books because I have found that they rarely are to my liking. So here are three books from 2020 that didn’t live up to the hype for me.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

2 stars – it was ok
2 stars – it was ok

This book was just ok for me. I had heard this was supposed to have been a comical Sci-Fi book but while it was slightly whimsical, I wouldn’t call it funny. Also I found the characters a little boring.

Kingdom of Wicked by Kerri Manscalco

As a fan of the Stalking Jack the Ripper series, I expected to fall in love with this book and the characters. Unfortunately, I found Emilia to be a pretty boring character. The pacing of the book also was also an issue.

Neanderthal Seeks Human by Penny Reid

1 star – Not for me
1 star – Not for me

To start with I DNF’d this book at 70% but I still didn’t like anything about this book so I gave it the one star as well.

So I didn’t like either of the characters. Jamie quickly became annoying and didn’t come across as smart. Also Quinn didn’t seem that great either so I don’t know why so many people rave about this book.

My review (which is linked) explains in more detail.

What books have you read that didn’t live up to the hype?
