3 stars – I liked it

Ariq is one of Chamele’s top warriors. He loves fighting and cannot live without combat. Now that the wars are over and the Chamele sector is at peace he is restless. He hopes to find the battle he is craving on Carinae E, instead he finds his mate.

We finally return to the Refuge in this book. Ariq is struggling to deal with his urge to fight and kill and knows that traveling to Carinae E with his Second would be the best option. He hopes to find the challenge he needs in the Refuge and instead he finds his mate, who is a scarred and deadly fighter. Ariq was a very protective alpha male but he wasn’t overbearing. He accepted Xareni completely and trusted in her skills, which is something that I always love in a hero. I love a strong couple who can fight together.

Xareni is a very scarred woman who is also very deadly. Her past has caused her to have severe PTSD but she has found a way to live with it. She can fight her own battles and survive on her own. I love a strong heroine who doesn’t need to rely on anyone. What I really enjoyed about this  couple though was that even though they mated pretty quick they still worked on getting to know each other. This is how I prefer fated mate romances and this one was pretty good.

Also Spark was a great animal companion. I really loved that little dragon, especially since he was so contrary.

Trigger Warnings:

  • domestic abuse leading to death
  • PTSD
