2 stars – it was ok

Solar cycles ago, Berke, one of the Chamele Warlords, found his mate but to protect her he sent her away. Elle now hates Berke for abandoning her and causing her daily agony. Unfortunately, she has to return to the Chamele sector to rescue two of her bounty hunters, and maybe get some revenge against Berke.

I have been wanting to see how Berke and Elle’s story would play out since I realized Elle was his missing mate in Warlord’s Bounty. This was a tense reunion that just showed that Berke is a very stubborn alien who isn’t good at communicating. I don’t really enjoy the communication issue trope and it was pretty clear in this one. This whole separation wouldn’t have happened if Berke had actually talked about his feelings and fears with Elle. He would have seen they would have been stronger together.

I also feel that Elle gave in too easily. Berke ruined her career and abandoned her for a stupid reason, yet she forgave him pretty easy. It also bothered me how much Berke refused to believe Elle could take care of herself. She had to frequently show her skills and talk about her escapades as a bounty hunter to even penetrate that she could take care of herself. Also I hate that Berke never told anyone about her. She was like a dirty little secret and she even says that at one point.

Because of these issues, I feel I can’t give this book a higher rating. I wish I could have liked this one more but sometimes characters and situations just don’t work. I can’t imagine these two having a HEA because of these situations. I feel Berke is just going to keep repeating the cycle of not listening to her, not talking to her, and not trusting in her abilities.
