Sophie Apperset is willing to marry outside her class to ensure the survival of her family. But Mr. Edward Sharpe is a grim and silent man who has barely shown any emotions in the two months of their courtship. She gives him one last chance to win her over during their annual Christmas party.
This was an enjoyable holiday novella. I don’t usually read Christmas romances but I actually liked this one. Sophie was a practical woman who was likeable. Ned was a smart man who has been taught to hide his emotions. He struggles to show Sophie how he feels about her. I liked the main characters in this story a lot.
My biggest issue with this story was Sophie’s family, specifically her sister and father. They are terrible with money and everyone just continues to enable them, especially Sophie and her mother. It annoyed me terribly, especially since now her husband will continue to enable their excessive spending.
Overall, this was a good, light, and sweet Christmas romance. I enjoyed it, even with the issues, and finished it in just a few hours. If you are looking for a short Christmas novella, check this one out.
