4 stars – It was really good

Willa Iscove, fae jeweler, has a stalker. One of her customers has become lovesick with her after a ring she crafted for him to find new love backfired. She makes a wish upon the Nocturne Falls fountain using a piece of opal and unknowingly conscripts the gargoyle on duty to help her.

A gargoyle and a fae seem like an unusual pair but these two work beautifully as a couple. They have a lot of trust issues, especially Nick, but they work it out and fall even harder for each other. If you can’t tell, I really liked Willa and Nick’s story.

Willa was introduced in the first book when she made Delaney’s ring and I thought she was a wonderful side character. I love how this world keeps expanding with each book and each new paranormal that is revealed. Willa’s history was sad but she was able to repair some of the damage with her family and her people.

Nick was briefly mentioned during that first book as well. Nick is an extremely protective alpha male who can turn into the large class of gargoyle. I found the gargoyles fascinating and really wish we had learned more about their species and the different classes. Willa and Nick were an adorable couple and I couldn’t get enough of them.

This book gives us a look at the fae kingdom which I found very fascinating. I love that with every book Painter continues to build this world and doesn’t limit herself to just the town of Nocturne Falls. I  love a unique and well built world. Overall, this was another great addition to the series and I can’t wait to see who is going to fall in love next.
